Hello fellow bloggers! I'm starting my first Linky party - Frugal Treasures Tuesday! You'll find the instructions and link at the end of this post. For my first frugal treasure, I'd like to share this pole lamp and barrel-shaped lamp shade! I found the lamp a few years ago at my favorite thrift for $3.99. The lamp shade I found last week for 79 cents because it had dents in it. But I knew when I finished with it they wouldn't show so jumped at the deal.
So first I tackled the lamp shade, which proved to be harder than I remembered; hadn't used a glue gun in a long time and finger tips are still sore! *ouch* lol You see, I had made over a lamp shade before, but that was with white rose buds! It was beautiful and came out so well. Unfortunately, it was crushed beyond repair in my last move. : ( As for my supplies, I bought my flowers, hydrangeas, from the dollar store which were inspired from this page off a calendar I bought at the 99cent store.
Here are my supplies assembled and now I'm ready to start.
Can you see the similarity of the flowers on the calendar page and the flowers I bought? After about 2 hours and many fingertip burns I realized I didn't have enough flowers to finish! Aargghhh!!! So back to the Dollar Store I went the next day. But this is how far I had gotten.
So a day later and another hour or so:
And here is the finished product! What do you think, pretty nice huh!
This lamp is for my livingroom and when I get further along with that makeover, I'll show it in place. But that will be awhile as I'm trying to finish the bathroom makeover, just a few more details and my bedroom makeover - major work ahead! Too many projects . . . I need more energy and time or at least a clone! : )

Then I went outside to spray paint the lamp base white. Quick job right? Not for me, though it was a new can of paint, I had for a while and somehow the nozzle got plugged. Took me an hour and lots of probing to finally get it cleaned so it worked!
So here is the project completed. I'm thinking of doing a treatment on the base to bring out some of the details, but not sure what. Do you have any suggestions?

ReplyDeleteI love the transformation on your lamp. The shade is beautiful and I never would have thought to cover it flowers like you did. You mentioned a type of treatment on the base...I noticed you have a gold framed picture next to the lamp. What about doing some type of gold paint, maybe drybrushed, on the areas of the base you'd like to highlight?
Thanks for your input, its much appreciated! Hope you'll come back again soon.
