Frugal Treasures Tuesday #9

Hello, and a happy spring day to you!  Well, I'm afraid I didn't get to my projects this week; out of town guest came early so had to put things away until next weekend.  But I'm so happy my BFF is visiting and I hadn't seen her in 5 years!!!  But so much for my joy and on to the features from last weeks party.
The link which received the most links this time goes to:
Jo Knows of  Woman in Real Life.  These beautiful goblets from Dove Pottery is only one of many great finds.  You need to check out the full post to see her other finds and also the goodies her daughter scored!

Jenni of Abandoned Antlers really scored when she found this beautiful tureen!

This beautiful amber glass candle holder is from Thrift Score!  I just love the color and if you look close you can see the beautiful earrings, also.

Carlene of Organized Clutter is Ms Green Thumb with her beautiful houseplants and her post is a great read.  This isn't the pic she used in her link but I had to share it.  Is this cute or what?

If you want to add some zing to a simple blanket or other project, check out Petals to Picots .  She shares the tutorials to make these too!

You won't believe what Sherry at Decorating With Cents made this from.  And the final full project is inspiring!

Are you hungry and want a quick tasty dish!  Vicky at Decor & Harmony shares her recipe with tutorial for this delish shrimp and salad.  Yummy!

I really love that we had such a great variety of links, keep them coming.  If you were featured, feel free to grab my new featured button from the side bar.  Thank you all for sharing.

Peek at Bedroom Update!

Well, I'm 3/4 finished with my bedroom makeover! Yippeeeee!  I can see the glow of the rainbow through the clouds!  So I thought I'd show you a peek of where I am.  Lets start with the fact that my bed is off the floor!  Yep, that's right, I found the rails to fit and for just $25!  So here is your peek . . . :
I'm finally happy with where its going.  As you can see from the drill sitting on my nightstand, I'm still working! lol   I got a few more of the smaller projects completed since I took this pic but they will have to wait for the final reveal. -_^
I still have two large paint projects to finish, but I want to wait until after I get my Annie Sloan chalk paint to do those.  Yes, I'm finally biting the bullet and will see how far that quart can really go. : )  I've been busy moving furniture around.  I don't know if I shared this corner amoire from my livingroom in another post, but I put it in my bedroom.  This was not easy, its soooo heavy!  *Whew*

Now it sits in the corner in my bedroom and will hold my sweaters and linens.  I bought this  at a yard sale for $50.00 a year ago.
The table to the right is what's left of the former desk turned nightstand; have plans for it also.  : )

I'm thinking of painting the inside and maybe adding a stencil to the walls so its pretty when its open.  Or maybe I'll cover the inside with a colorful fabric as I'm not so keen on the paint fumes being in there closed up with my sweaters.  It takes so long for the fumes to totally evaporate from the surface and yes, I'm impatient! lol
The other big project is this antique dresser I bought at a yard sale about 10yrs ago for $30.  The knobs are ceramic hearts painted white.  One was broken in my last move, but I still have an extra one.  I'm actually thinking of changing the knobs to handles as the original holes are still there but I've never used them.  It came with no knobs or handles.

Well, that's all for now . . ., the next time you see the room it will be completed.  I'll show the furniture makeovers in separate posts.  So look forward to a lot of photos with the reveal post.  I will try and do some of the photos in collages so you can see the whole story unfolding without it becoming too long.

Next week, I'll reveal the completed bathroom makeover.  But first I need to revamp this little cutie that was given to me by a dear friend.  Isn't it just adorable!  And it fits in the bathroom without making it look smaller or taking up any walking space.
Hope your week has gone well.  Thanks for taking the time to stop and visit.  I'll end this post with a bouquet of flowers I picked the other morning!

Frugal Treasures Tuesday # 8

Hey Ladies, its party time!  So we had quite a few links this week, which I love.  I just want to thank you all for participating and taking the time to share your projects each week.  And for those of you who are visiting for the first time, WELCOME!

So let's start with the link which got the most clicks:
Sarah at Alderberry Hill caught your eye as she did mine with the vibrant colors of her charming pillows.

My fave frugal find of the week is from Art Is Beauty!  Can you believe she found this was a roadside find with mirror intact?   You'll want to read how she brought this back to beauty, detailed post.

This weeks other featured links are:
Caps Creations with a frugal find I would personally love, this vintage address book.  A great back up for when you lose your cell phone and all your contacts. lol

Joann over at  Woman in Real Life showed the original way to go frugal shopping, at mom's! : )

My grand-daughters will be so excited when I make these beauties shared by Heather at Me Making Do!  And yes she was generous to share her free pattern.

Jenny over at The NY Melrose Family shared these adorable towel lollipops!  Talk about a creative baby shower or housewarming gift.

The House at Bluebird Lane showed such imagination in art imitating veggies!

With the help of Samaa at Honey Sweet Home, I can make something which will bring all of my grandkids much joy!  These letters are an easy way to add personality to a room and will make a great pattern for pillows also.

Well that's it for this week.  Thank you all for sharing and look forward to what you will come up with this week.  Please feel free to grab a featured button from my right side bar.
Now for the our party, a few guidelines to keep it fun for everyone.

Frugal Treasures Tuesday #7

Hello and Happy Tuesday! : )
I'm always amazed the creativity of the many bloggers out there in blogland.  Picking only a few to feature gets harder each week.  But here we go:
The link with the most clicks is this beautiful paper wreath by Vicky at Decor & Harmony.  She is so talented and creative.  Check out the tutorial and some of her other projects.

My 'Fave for the Week' goes to Bethany of Pitter and Glink!  What she did with a few simple pieces is awesome and she includes a tutorial.  You've got to see the before of this project!

If you're looking for a great healthy and delish meal, check out the recipe for this pizza by Peg at Crazy Thrifty Crafts.  The story behind the recipe is a wonderful read also.  Yummy!

Biljana is one of my favorite bloggers with her gift for creating shabby decor.  This is such an adorable lamp and she does include a brief tutorial and pics of materials.

Thank you all for sharing your projects and taking the time to visit and link up.  I really appreciate the support and learning so much from your many talents.  If you were featured please feel free to grab a button from my side bar.

You probably remember this thrift store bed frame makeover from last month.

You know how sometimes you look at a finished project and you're just not quite content with it when you get it in the space?  Well, that's just how I felt after I put the frame in my bedroom.  It didn't look bad, just not quite the look I was looking for.  It seemed like too much of the same color and not enough contrast.  Thus I did this and I'm so loving it!

What do you think?
This look goes so much better with my accent fabric and looks better with the nightstand.
Now on to the party:  A few instructions so we all will have a good time and meet other great bloggers.

  1. Link up any of your found treasures, great buys, inspiring projects, crafts, photos, or recipes.  Please not Etsy shops or giveaways.
  2. Would really appreciate it if you'd become a follower and leave a comment so I can follow back.

Spring in the Garden!

Hello Everyone!
Well, it was a beautiful day yesterday and sunshine  in the mid to high 70's predicted through the weekend.  I so love California weather!  I went out yesterday and picked a few roses!  Isn't this a lovely yellow and they smell awesome!

About a year ago, I transplanted these lavender bushes.  I'm so excited to see all the new buds about to open.
This was the lavender bush a month ago and below is how it is now!

Last spring I also transplanted this young Rose of Sharon bush.

It seemed like an easy dig when I checked it out ahead time, very sandy soil.  So for a couple of weeks, I watered around it and dug in a circle to make the roots grow in a ball.   The dig started really easy, until I realized the largest root was rapped around the water main pipe!!!  Then the surgery began, . . . starting with getting lopping shears to cut below and around the pipe.  I even had to get my gardening butcher knife, old one I keep for just the garden.  This took quite a few hours.  But the surgery was successful and I kept it soaking in a five gallon bucket for over a week until I noticed new leaves developing.  Then I planted it in the bed and after a month saw new growth was continuing and new blooms were opening.  Thus I felt it was safe to go on vacation, even though the temps would be in the high 90's.  I knew management turns on the sprinklers at least twice a week for a half hour.  Never the less, I still reminded him before leaving on my 2 week trip.  Unfortunately, when I returned home, this is what I found . . . *_*

Frugal Treasures Tuesday #6

Happy Tuesday one and all!  Well, I had a busy week so didn't get any new projects finished.  I did however, get to go thrifting yesterday!  So . . . , I though I'd share my finds with you.

First is the cute little foot stool!  I've been looking for a footstool of the right height for years.  My use is for when I'm attending my Bible Conventions, it will keep my feet slightly elevated so they won't swell so much!  It also works the same way for when I'm traveling.  I plan on adding a handle to the side to make it easier for carrying.  I have nerve issues in my legs and feet so this is very important for me and a major score!
The striped fabric in the background is 2 shower curtains that I just love!  It will be the perfect addition for my new bathroom makeover.  I was looking for a wreath form so I could add a bit of spring to my front door; scored for 29 cents!   But my favorite find of the day is the blue and white bell!  I have many pieces with the windmill pattern including this panel shown below.

Now on to party.  I want to thank you all for taking the time to share your work.  This was the best party so far, lots more links.  But this also made it even more difficult to choose which ones to feature.
Well my favorite this week goes to Andrea @ Cottage Market for her creative way of thinking outside of the box when creating this beautiful lace necklace.  She also included the simple tutorial!  I've got to make me one of these!

Jeanne @ Perfect Imperfections brought this little table to life for a friend.  The story about this table is a must read, very moving.

Brandi @ Don't Disturb This Groove took a simple jar and created a spring center piece!

This cute heart-shaped mirror was found in the basement by JoKnows @ Woman In Real Life.

Jenni over at Abandoned Antlers shares her thrift store finds including this beautiful soup tureen.  You should see the beautiful china and linen she also found.

If you were featured please feel free to grab a button below or from my side bar to the right.

Frugal Treasures Tuesday #5!

Hello everyone and welcome back to the party!  This was a slow week for me, but I did get my nightstand finished and

also completed the medicine cabinet below for my bathroom.  You can read the how-to's here and here.

So what have you been doing?  Find any great thrifty finds or maybe a good sale?  I'm so enjoying spring and have started cleaning my garden bed.  How's your spring going or are you still in the snow?  Thanks so much for stopping by and for all your kind comments.  I really enjoy sharing with you and seeing how talented you all are.
~Bee~

Now let's get this party started!  A few instructions to keep it fun everyone:

Looking forward to seeing what you've been doing!

Desk to Nightstand Complete!

So I've had this idea in my head for over a year and finally did it!  I was given a desk identical to this one from a friend in a dark walnut stain.  I had removed the drawers but added back 2 of them for this pic.

My sil was given this one for my teenage nephew's bedroom when their home caught fire.  They were going to strip and stain this a dark stain to match his bedroom so . . . I suggested we just do a switch. :  )
Since I no longer need a full desk, I was going to paint and sell it.  But then one day after thrifty hopping and failing again to find a tall nightstand to fit my high bed, it hit me . . ., cut the desk in half!  So I measured, marked, and taped and then had a friend come and cut it for me.

Ta da!!!  Perfect size and height with three deep drawers.
So then I did some light sanding to knock back the shiny surface.  Then on with the chalk recipe paint in aqua.

I then added the royal on the top to match my bed and also on the drawer knobs.

Then I painted the knobs the same as the top, royal blue. (tip- sticking knobs in piece of styrofoam helps keep your hands free of paint)

Once the paint had become a little tacky, I took a dry brush and drug it through the top to bring some of the aqua through.

A little light distressing and  . . . Voila!!!  I really love the color combination!

This is a hint of where I'm going with my bedroom theme.

The lamps will be different and so will the bedding.  The fabric tucked over the pillows is the basis for my bedroom color scheme and will be my window treatment and accents.  I must admit that I'm not very happy with my bed frame now; seems like to much of the same color.  We've got sunny days all week so think I'll be repainting or at least re-working the coloring of the bed frame.  I still have some more furniture to be painted for the bedroom, a corner amoire and a mirror!

Thanks for stopping by to share my progress.  I love hearing from you so please leave your thoughts and tips.
