WELCOME

WELCOME!

So . . ., you've finally found the perfect place, lots of storage, nice size rooms, all the extra amenities. But, then you're told "no painting and no making holes in the walls"! You feel all your decorating plans going out the window. What can you do to make the space your own.

Well don't despair. There are many ways to get around the restrictions and limitations and I am here to share the ways I've overcome them over the past 18yrs.

I hope you enjoy my tips and will also share your own. I'll also be sharing some of my on going projects. Once again . . .
WELCOME!!!

Desk to Nightstand Complete!

So I've had this idea in my head for over a year and finally did it!  I was given a desk identical to this one from a friend in a dark walnut stain.  I had removed the drawers but added back 2 of them for this pic.

My sil was given this one for my teenage nephew's bedroom when their home caught fire.  They were going to strip and stain this a dark stain to match his bedroom so . . . I suggested we just do a switch. :  )
Since I no longer need a full desk, I was going to paint and sell it.  But then one day after thrifty hopping and failing again to find a tall nightstand to fit my high bed, it hit me . . ., cut the desk in half!  So I measured, marked, and taped and then had a friend come and cut it for me.

Ta da!!!  Perfect size and height with three deep drawers.
So then I did some light sanding to knock back the shiny surface.  Then on with the chalk recipe paint in aqua.

I then added the royal on the top to match my bed and also on the drawer knobs.

Then I painted the knobs the same as the top, royal blue. (tip- sticking knobs in piece of styrofoam helps keep your hands free of paint)

Once the paint had become a little tacky, I took a dry brush and drug it through the top to bring some of the aqua through.

A little light distressing and  . . . Voila!!!  I really love the color combination!

This is a hint of where I'm going with my bedroom theme.

The lamps will be different and so will the bedding.  The fabric tucked over the pillows is the basis for my bedroom color scheme and will be my window treatment and accents.  I must admit that I'm not very happy with my bed frame now; seems like to much of the same color.  We've got sunny days all week so think I'll be repainting or at least re-working the coloring of the bed frame.  I still have some more furniture to be painted for the bedroom, a corner amoire and a mirror!

Thanks for stopping by to share my progress.  I love hearing from you so please leave your thoughts and tips.

    1. Hi Paula and thanks for stopping by and the party invite. If you find a desk with a long top, you'll have enough left to create a cute side or decor table. Stay tuned for what I do with the rest of that desk. -_^

  10. How smart - and thrifty - you are! I've cut down various pieces of furniture before. But it never dawned on me to cut down a desk to use as a nightstand. How clever!

Thanks for joining Time Travel Thursday. I hope you'll be a part of the fun each week. Be sure to stop by tonight, and see yourself featured! ;)
